Which Folding Door Does A Door Manufacturer Choose?

Technically, Hellbergs Doors in Mellerud didn’t need to replace their old folding doors. After 20 years, their Torverk doors were still, in their own words, “in ridiculously good shape”—a quick sealing strip replacement would have been enough.

But Sebastian Hellberg, third-generation owner and self-proclaimed “door and gate nerd,” wanted pedestrian doors to save energy. So he chose three new motorized folding doors from Torverk.

A door is never just a door

Hellbergs manufactures premium-grade, certified steel doors—fire doors and security doors that protect lives and property across Scandinavia.

For them, a door is never just a door. Every product is tailored to project specifications, and with all the customization options—colours, panic bars, frames, hardware—the combinations are virtually endless.

Everything is produced in-house in Mellerud, with quality as the guiding principle.

Choosing premium is second nature

Sebastian applies the same high standards when buying doors for his own facility. His products and Torverk’s serve similar purposes, so choosing premium was an easy decision.

“We’re a premium manufacturer of steel doors. Our doors are expensive, but they last more than 50 years. Sure, I could’ve bought cheaper doors for the factory—but I doubt they would’ve held up as well or looked as good. I know Torverk is top-tier in terms of quality, and that gives me peace of mind.”

Saving energy and letting in light

The main reason he replaced the doors was to get pedestrian access. It saves energy by avoiding full door openings for people passing through.

Sebastian also took the opportunity to update the colour and add two rows of windows to bring more natural light into the factory. He chose lift-off hinges that raise the door slightly as it opens, improving sealing and reducing wear on the bottom gaskets.

The motors were also upgraded to more energy-efficient models—and the difference compared to the old ones is noticeable.

“Our factory was built in 1950, when natural light wasn’t exactly a design priority. So I take every chance I get to let in more light. With an extra row of windows on three doors, it really makes a difference. The whole building feels refreshed.”

The old doors? Being resold

The installation was done by a local contractor in Mellerud. The installers liked the old doors so much, they asked if they could take them and try selling them second-hand.

“They’re old, sure, and need new sealing strips—but otherwise, there’s nothing wrong with them,” Sebastian says.
