Last winter, the housing association BRF Tegelpråmen in Stockholm received a note from the fire inspector: the wicket door in their garage door was too narrow to serve as an emergency exit. On top of that, the door had been hit a few times and no longer closed properly, which meant the building was losing a lot of heat.

The old garage door didn't close properly and was leaking heat energy
Beyond repair
When the service company came to take a look, they concluded the door was so old that spare parts were no longer available.
"So I asked the service guy what we should do," says resident Ulf Lindqvist.
"He just pointed at the garage door in the neighboring property and said, ''''Buy one of those. Don´t even bother looking at other brands. With them, you''''ll just end up repairing.'''' Normally, we would''''ve gone through a tender process and compared quotes from several suppliers. But with that kind of recommendation, we skipped the comparison and went straight for a Torverk door," says Ulf.

The new door has three wider leaves and therefore has room for a bigger pass door, wich is required for an approved emergency exit
Installed in just two days
The new garage door is now in place, and the association''s heating costs are under control again. The replacement – including removal of the old door – took only two days.
Approved For Emergency Exit
The old door had four leaves, but the Torverk door has three wider ones. This makes it possible to include a pass door that''s 800 mm wide, which means it now meets the requirements for an approved emergency exit.
Quiet operation
To avoid disturbing residents, the new door is mounted on a free-standing frame. That way, vibrations and noise aren''t transmitted into the building.
Keypad Causes Confusion
Residents can open the door with tags, remote control, app – or a keypad. And while the keypad is the only thing that''s caused some confusion, it''s more of a funny detail.
"The old door had two big buttons – open and close. The new one has a small keypad. Even though I sent an information letter to everyone, people still ask how to use the buttons. We''re just used to the old one," Ulf laughs.
Happy residents – and a willing reference
The members of the association are happy with their new garage door, and Ulf is more than willing to serve as a reference for other housing associations considering a replacement.
Heavy lifting made simple
Tegelpråmen''s new garage door measures 3100 x 2770 mm. Torverk handled everything – from delivery, dismantling and installation, to removing all the scrap from the old door. A crane truck was needed to lift both doors in and out, but the whole process went smoothly.
10-year warranty for peace of mind
The association also signed a service agreement with Torverk, which means they now have a 10-year warranty on the entire installation. In other words: problem-free ownership for years to come.
