Carl and Bruno Bergmar run the potato farm at Bjälbo Trädgård in Skänninge. Here they stand in front of the oldest of their 15 Torverk doors, purchased in 1994. "Torverk folding doors can actually take a beating without failing, and are designed for many hassle-free open-close cycles," says Bruno.

Potatoes come from big boxes in the grocery store. Many of them were grown by Bruno Bergmar at Bjälbo Trädgård in Skänninge, under meticulous care.

Since 1979, Bruno has refined every step of potato production right up to the consumer. Today, he produces 10,000 tons of potatoes annually, feeding 222,000 potato lovers across Sweden and Norway.

"When my father started growing potatoes in 1969, it was a way to survive. Today, I''m almost childishly passionate about potatoes and driven to solve the challenges that come up every week, year-round," says Bruno.

Collaboration with Foreign Companies

One challenge is that there are no seed potato producers in Sweden. So Bruno works with companies in Germany, the Netherlands, and Finland to source certified, high-quality seed potatoes.

He uses the seed potatoes himself and also sells to growers nationwide.

Growing a Dozen Varieties

Bruno cultivates about ten varieties—waxy, floury, red-skinned, and organic potatoes. These are harvested and stored in climate-controlled warehouses. Based on daily orders, the potatoes are washed, sorted, and packed in bulk boxes or bags of various sizes for evening and overnight deliveries.

Chose Doors That Insulate Well

The storage facilities are a critical point in Bruno''s logistics chain.

Potatoes consist largely of water that evaporates, so well-insulated warehouses are essential to prevent condensation and rust on equipment and buildings.

"That''s one reason I choose Torverk doors. They''re heavily insulated, free from unnecessary thermal bridges, and built with strong components that last. This way, we avoid condensation, extra maintenance, and hassle," Bruno explains.

Folding Doors Don''''''''t Get in the Way Like Overhead Doors

He prefers folding doors over overhead doors because, as he says,

"One of a door''s most important jobs is not to get in the way."

"When you''re driving a loader or forklift, the problem with overhead doors is that they often start closing before you''''''''ve even cleared the opening. They''''''''re also quite slow to open and close, and expensive to buy and maintain. With folding doors, you always have them in sight. And since they open both left and right simultaneously, they open and close faster."

"Torverk folding doors can actually take a beating without failing, and are designed for many trouble-free open-close cycles."

Many Opening and Closing Cycles!

Another common door issue is the safety edges.

"If an overhead door takes a slight bump, the edges can jam and stop working properly. Torverk folding doors can take some knocks without failing, and are built for many hassle-free open-close cycles," Bruno says.

Link Arms Acting Up

Bruno knows what he''''''''s talking about. He has a total of 15 electric Torverk doors in his operation. And although they work well most of the time, not even Torverk doors are completely free from problems.

"When the link arms on the latest folding door we bought started acting up, I wondered what was wrong. But we contacted Torverk, who quickly fixed the issue. Since then, it''''''''s worked perfectly. They''''''''re simple, sturdy things," Bruno says.
