About Torverk industrial Doors

Torverk Industrial Doors AB was founded in 1962 with the ambition to develop and manufacture the most durable, reliable, and energy-efficient doors possible. Today, we continue to pursue the same goal, focusing strongly on building doors that never fail.

Since day one, our motto has been: “No throwaway products.”

Sven-Åke Sundberg founded Torverk in 1962. He despised throwaway products and aimed to manufacture the most durable and reliable doors possible.

Together with engineer Arne Eriksson, he designed every detail with a focus on durability and function. Since all resources went into development, the door installers had to travel by train or bus, carrying just a toolbox.

The Energy Crisis Changed Everything

Customers appreciated the robust steel doors. But in 1973, when Egypt and Syria attacked Israel, it triggered a global oil crisis.

From almost free energy in the early 70s, crude oil prices multiplied 14 times over the next decade. Heating oil was rationed, and the government urged everyone to add insulation to homes and buildings to save energy.

Insulation Became a Priority

In response to the new market conditions, Sven-Åke and Arne decided to develop their doors to be the best-insulated doors possible.

They added seals around the entire door and between each panel. But the floor seals dragged on the ground and wore out quickly. To solve this, they invented a hinge that lifts the door a few millimeters before opening, eliminating the problem.

Switched to Sandwich Construction

When Sven-Åke''s son, Lars, took over as CEO in the 1980s, all development focused on reducing the customer''s operating costs by making the door even more durable and better insulated.

They transitioned to sandwich construction with super-insulating foam and gas-insulated windows featuring thermal breaks.

They added heavy reinforcements to all load-bearing parts of the structure and invented safety edges and clever security features.

Development Stalled as the Economy Slumped

When the economic crisis hit in 2008, product development halted and Torverk''s finances declined until the company was sold to its current owners in 2017.

Renewed Focus on Product and Production Development

Today, we once again prioritize product development. Just like Sven-Åke Sundberg, we aim to build the most durable and well-insulated door possible, because it''s the only logical choice in a world with strained resources.

Throwaway products don''t align with a sustainable future, or a clear conscience.

Philosophy

We aim to contribute to a better environment for future generations by delivering sustainable products of high quality, designed to minimize environmental impact while providing the best possible total cost of ownership for our customers.

Our philosophy guides every part of our organization.

Business Concept

Our business concept is to manufacture economically and environmentally sustainable products by tailoring door systems based on customer needs, offering the lowest operating costs, minimal maintenance, and long service life.

Our in-house manufactured products come with the longest warranty on the market.

Fire station at Old Kent Road in London circa 2000

Ever since 1962, Torverk has built many doors for fire stations, operations that cannot tolerate downtime because response times mean lives saved or lost.

Though our goal was never to build the cheapest door, that’s exactly what we do today.

Cause our industrial customers, well aware of how costly production interruptions are, say the cheapest door is the one that never stops working.

Market

Torverk’s customers span a wide range of sectors, from farmers and workshops to contractors and even a research station in Antarctica. We also maintain strategic partnerships with multinational companies and local representatives who serve as Torverk’s ambassadors in their markets.

We deeply appreciate our customers’ loyalty—a loyalty we strive to nurture. Our clients include businesses in construction, manufacturing, transportation, and distribution, as well as public sector organizations, farmers, property owners, and individual entrepreneurs.

We export our doors to several countries across the world.

Your Choice Affects the Outcome

If you know doors, you''re aware of three main environmental impacts: energy loss during use, transportation due to service and repairs, and a short product lifespan. You can decide whether your door will require a lot or little maintenance, consume high or low energy, and have a short or long lifespan.

Ask yourself—do you want to buy a door that might be cheaper upfront, or a door that''s affordable to own?

Our Environmental Policy

We are certified according to SS-EN ISO 14001:2015.

Excerpt from our environmental program:

Based on a life cycle perspective, we will use materials with the lowest possible environmental impact over time and design products with long service life and minimal maintenance needs, thereby minimizing road transport.

Our doors are designed to be the most energy-efficient on the market, even in standard versions.
