Sven-Åke Sundberg founded Torverk in 1962. He despised throwaway products and aimed to manufacture the most durable and reliable doors possible.
Together with engineer Arne Eriksson, he designed every detail with a focus on durability and function. Since all resources went into development, the door installers had to travel by train or bus, carrying just a toolbox.
The Energy Crisis Changed Everything
Customers appreciated the robust steel doors. But in 1973, when Egypt and Syria attacked Israel, it triggered a global oil crisis.
From almost free energy in the early 70s, crude oil prices multiplied 14 times over the next decade. Heating oil was rationed, and the government urged everyone to add insulation to homes and buildings to save energy.
